36 Of The Best Dog-Friendly Coastal Camping Spots In The UK

Updated January 2022.

It’s the post all you dog and camping lovers have been waiting for! A big long list of some of the best dog-friendly campsites near a beach in the UK.

A weekend camping trip is one of the best experiences you can have as a couple, as a family, or even solo, but it is made all the better if you bring your furry friend along for the experience.

Since we got our Springer Spaniel last year, I’ve started to look more at dog-friendly campsites (cue cute puppy picture):

This Spring and Summer I was looking for a really good list of coastal campsites for doggies, but I kept coming up short. There are a few decent blog posts and articles dotted around, but they didn’t cover all areas of the UK. So, with help from some doggie Facebook groups, I’ve compiled both a long list of dog-friendly coastal campsites, and plotted them on a map, which you can find at the bottom of this post.

If you’re looking for a camp site in a particular location, then you’re in luck, I’ve split the camp sites out by region, so you can drill down to the specific area using the links below.

*Please bear in mind some of these campsites may close for the winter months, so get in touch with them in advance to check whether they are open.*

Scotland
North West
East Coast
Wales
South Coast
Devon
Cornwall

I’m going to start the list by picking out two of my favourite dog-friendly UK camping spots that I came across when doing research for this post. Both look brilliant, and are on my to-do list for next year!

PIEL ISLAND

Yep, you read correctly, this is a whole island. Even better, it is only accessible by a little boat from Roa Island. What’s on the island? Some English Heritage castle ruins (14th century Piel Castle), a pub (the Ship Inn) and the campsite. That’s it. The landlord of the pub calls himself the ‘King Of Piel Island’ and closing hours have been known to be ‘flexible’. Brilliant.

TROYTOWN FARM

I’ve read so much about this place, and I don’t think you’ll find a campsite closer to the sea. Troytown Farm is located on the Isles Of Scilly, off the coast of Cornwall. Aside from the amazing campsite, they are located on the only dairy farm in Scilly, and as such, you can pick up fresh milk, butter, clotted cream and their heavenly ice-cream from their on-site diary.
